Check-out The Story Behind The Meghan Markle Painting In Beyonce And Jay-Z’s Brit Awards Acceptance Video

On Wednesday, 20th of February, Beyonce and Jay-Z won the award for “Best International Group” at the 2019 Brit Awards and while they were not at the event to accept the award, they recorded an acceptance video that got the internet buzzing.

In the acceptance video, Beyonce and Jay-Z recreated their ApeS*** video that was shot at the Louvre where they were in front of a Mona Lisa painting. In their acceptance video, Beyonce and Jay-Z were standing in front of a painting featuring the new Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.

Beyonce captioned:

Thank you to the Brits for the award for Best International Group. I won this award back in 2002 with my besties, Kelly and Michelle. How lucky am I to have been in a group with my other best friend, the GOAT Hova. 🙌🏾 In honor of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas. Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy.

Here’s what you need to know about the painting.

Illustrator Tim O’Brien created the hyperrealistic portrait of Meghan that appears in the video and the artist says he did the oil painting of the royal last year for the Summer 2018 cover of Meghan’s sorority’s magazine.

He says to Harper’s Bazaar, “I was hired by two great creative directors, Erin Mayes, and Kate Collins out of Austin, to paint the cover of The Key, the magazine for the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. This was a collaboration and we worked together closely on the image and all the tiny details specific to the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.”

Talking about the painting, he says, “I think she’s lovely and I wanted her to look regal, like a classic portrait, even trying to achieve an aged feel to the color of the piece.”
