Sign of Relief: Free Chemotherapy for Breast and Cervical Cancer for Women in Senegal

Women living in Senegal can finally push a sigh of relief. Now all women with breast and cervical cancer will be treated free of charge.

To facilitate the medical treatment of women living with cancer of the cervix or breast, the Minister of Health and Social Action, Abdoulaye Diouf Sarr, announced the free chemotherapy from October 1st .

Estimated at more than one million cases a year, breast cancer is the number one cancer in the world.

Also, it is one of the most serious cancers with a significant mortality; out of every 100 women who die of cancer, 25 have breast cancer.

Of the African countries affected by these two diseases, Senegal has one of the highest rates.

Medical sources said that this new measure will support nearly 2/3 of patients in chemotherapy.

In addition, the cost of treating other cancers will also drop by 60% from the same date.
