Some sicknesses never really have deep symptoms like some others and this is the absolute truth.

Most early symptoms of diabetes are from higher-than-normal levels of glucose, a kind of sugar, in your blood.

The warning signs can be so mild that you don’t notice them.

1. Excessive thirst

If you notice yourself getting unbearably thirsty, then you should not discard it as something not worthy of your attention. Talk to people about how you feel and let those with expertise in this field advise you on the best step to take.

2. Excessive hunger

Your appetite and how frequent you eat may change if you have traces of diabetes in your system. If you notice that you gobble down food more than you used to and you are not pregnant, ovulating or eating excessively out of depression, then something else may be wrong with you, so why not visit a doctor.

3. Blurry vision

Vision changes may mean your blood sugar is high and you should pay attention to this. High blood sugar draws more fluid into the lens of the eye, so your vision is less sharp. The first thing to do is to check your blood sugar more frequently and bring it under better control.

4. Frequent urination (you wake 3 or more times in the night to urinate)

The moment you notice a hike in the number of times you urinate, pay attention. Of course, we know that during the harmattan season, one tends to pee a lot or when one takes a lot of fluid. Asides this, however, visiting the toilet more often during the day and even at night speaks loudly of diabetes.

5. Fatigue (particularly after eating)

Your body converts the food you eat into glucose that your cells use for energy. But your cells need insulin to take in glucose. If your body doesn’t make enough or any insulin, or if your cells resist the insulin your body makes, the glucose can’t get into them and you have no energy. This can make you hungrier and more tired.

6. Feeling irritable

Feeling grouchy, irritable and itchy or even moody is another sign that perhaps there is a rise in your sugar level. Please also pay attention to this.

7. Wounds that don’t heal or heal slowly

Have a wound that just won’t heal? Keep having sores that are painful and refuse to close up? Please visit a doctor.
